Tonga 2018 🐋

So here we are, in September again, it will be our third trip to Tonga, getting ready, you know what I mean!!! don't you??? Of course, the humpback whales are waiting for us but first let's start by the preparation, it's not that easy to get prepared for swimming with these magnificent creatures, it takes time to prepare and this is what we are doing my husband and I. I am not talking about the gear here, I am talking physically, preparing our body to work harder than what we are doing right now and I can say at our age , it is not that easy. So waking up early everyday, going for a run or hitting the gym and having a good diet, (this is very important), we are very lucky that we live very close to the sea here in Sydney so we can go everyday for our training. Then come all the preparation, every trip we do for our photographic adventures is different. So for the whales, we take a DSLR camera with a Underwater housing,a Go-pro (we never know). See below for update on the trip.

The moment you see them , this is where you start to get excited. Your heart ❤️ beats faster and faster, you just can't wait to be in the water with them. Once you get in the water, it's another world 🌎. You try to get eye to eye contact with them, because as they say, the eyes are the window to the soul, and once you look into a whales eye you are a changed person.

Humpback Whales

The humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) is a species of baleen whale. One of the larger rorqual species, adults range in length from 12–16 m (39–52 ft) and weigh around 25–30 metric tons (28–33 short tons). The humpback has a distinctive body shape, with long pectoral fins and a knobbly head. It is known for breaching and other distinctive surface behaviors, making it popular with whale watchers, Thanks to Wiki for a clear explanation, more info on wikipedia

There are no words to express the feelings to be surrounded by the whales, all I can say is that I feel totally spiritually fulfilled when I swim with them.

Happy adventures 🐋

Update on our trip, 14/09/2018. We have been back on the island of EUA for a week now, photographing the Humpback whales. We really love coming to the island. You are greeted by smiles and "hello" everywhere you go. It's a place where you can slowdown and catch up with yourself. The captain of our boat, Litani is great. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience since he has been guiding, swimming with whales for the last ten years. When we are out on the boat, he will start singing, trying to woo the whales. A bit of a whale serenade. The weather hasn't been as good as what we hoped for, but I have managed to get some good shots of the whales.
